Below are three simple steps to keeping your carpet clean and looking great.

1) Stop dirt at the door

Preventing dirt and grime from getting on the carpet in the first place is a great way to start keeping it clean. The following helpful hints can stop dirt in its tracks.

Use Mats - Outdoor and indoor mats or runners can reduce the amount of dirt that enters the house. Use mats anywhere carpet meets hard floor and make sure to vacuum these regularly. Do not put mats or rugs on top of carpet it will create friction and abrade the fiber of the carpet under the rug or mat.

Take off your shoes - You can save wear and tear on carpet by asking everyone to take their shoes off before entering your home.

Change your air filters - Change air filters in your heating and air-conditioning systems as recommended by the manufacturer's directions. The more dust and particles removed by the filter, the fewer that fall onto the carpet and become grime or spots.

2) Vacuum

Proper vacuuming is the easiest and most effective way to keep your carpet clean. It may come as a surprise that something as simple as regular vacuuming can also have the largest impact on the air you breathe. Removing loose soil while it remains on the carpet surface prevents dirt from being ground into the carpet pile and can help preserve the cushiness of your carpet. Keep in mind green cleaning starts with vacuuming.

"Remember A quick once over doesn't do much"

Vacuuming Tips - On carpet, use slow, repetitive front-to-back motions in an overlapping sequence. same spot. Instead, move slightly to the left or right about every four strokes. To get the most out of your vacuuming regime, remember these few easy tips:

- Remember to remove and replace or empty vacuum bags when they are half to two-thirds full.

Vacuuming frequency - As a rule of thumb, you should vacuum at least once a week with a good quality vacuum cleaner. However, the more foot traffic over your carpet, the more you need to vacuum. The general formula is:

3) Clean spots and spills quickly

It is very important to ALWAYS read and follow the care instructions and any warnings provided by the carpet or upholstery manufacturer. Carpeting and upholstery with natural fibers and/or certain dyes or finishes may require special treatment. If in doubt contact California steam clean for advice/service first. NEVER PROCEED with any stain removal instructions without knowing the exact nature of the stain involved. NEVER USE any retail products to remove stains from carpet or upholstery without seeking the advice of the manufacturer or you could void your warranty.

Blot liquids with a dry, white, absorbent cloth or white paper toweling (no printing).

Do not scrub the area! Scrubbing may cause pile distortion in the affected area. Continue to use a dry cloth or paper towels until the area is completely dry. For semi-solids, gently scrape up with a rounded spoon. Solids should be broken up and vacuumed until completely removed.

Pretest any spot removal agent in an inconspicuous area to be certain the solution will not damage the fiber or the dye. After applying several drops to the testing area, hold a white cloth on the wet area for 10 seconds. Examine the carpet and cloth for color transfer, color change, or damage to the carpet.

Apply a small amount of the selected cleaning solution to a white cloth and work in gently. Work from the edges of the spill to the center to prevent the spill from spreading. Do not scrub! Blot in order to absorb as much as possible, and repeat if necessary.

Many fiber manufacturers provide a toll-free cleaning assistance and advice (consult your warranty).
